THE IMPORTANCE OF THE
GURU (SPIRITUAL MASTER)
Many of us
may wonder about the following questions:
Why do we
need a guru (spiritual master)?
Are not we able
to reach the same goal by ourselves?
Are not we
yet whole and divine?
If
everything we are looking for is already within us and we are perfect souls
coming from the divine and trying to get back to our true home...then...why to
depend onto some guru when walking in our spiritual path?
We came
here into this world to play our role in creation and learn lessons, which
allow us to grow. Through continuous growth, we may ultimately express our true
nature and discover our original state of oneness with God.
There are
many ways, many paths to reach the same goal, which is Self Realization. In the different traditions, the same thing is
called by different names, meaning the same: Nirvana, Moksha, Kaivalya,
liberation, salvation, awakening, illumination, God Communion…
The soul eventually
remembers and reunites again with the divine origin that is the source of
everything. The soul finally experiments the union of all, Sat-Chit-Ananda, the
ever increasing and ever new joy and bliss, once the soul is merged with Spirit,
with God.
I do not
know for most of you… but for me this seems a great task, the greatest task a
human being may face!
We need a
teacher to help us learn in school and specially in university.
We need
special training and follow up if we are supposed to start a new job.
We need
advise and teaching for almost everything we do in our lives…
How, then,
will we not need guidance to accomplish the most important spiritual task which
is the awakening of our soul?
A true guru
is not a mere teacher, but a mahatma, an enlightened soul.
We are asleep
in the cosmic dream, in the illusion of Maya. We have forgotten what we are,
our divine origin, and we need to remember it by ourselves or ideally be guided
by someone who really knows what is talking about, because he or she is been
there before… and he or she can show us the way home.
I will give
an example that comes to my mind:
When we try
to find a place, we have different options: We may search the place on a map,
if we have the gift of good orientation. If we are lucky, we will finally find
the place, but it may take time. We may ask for directions to local people…
with the possibility of a correct answer or the danger of misdirection.
But if we
really want to reach the place faster and more efficiently, we may ideally
travel with a local guide, who will be with us all the way, showing us
everything, and helping us to understand the places, people and traditions,
till we reach our final destination.
In the same
way, to get to a place, we can choose to go directly or going in circles; we
can use a slow transport, or we can get a plane to reach it much faster.
The guru is
the guide in our spiritual path, the fastest way, the plane to the goal.
After some
time searching and finding, one of the things I have learnt is about the
importance of time: Time is a precious gift and there is no time to waste!
This is why
it is so important to focus in our goal and find an efficient way to reach it
as soon as possible, when we still have time.

May we all
advance diligently towards the goal, enjoying the way and receiving the
invaluable guidance of the guru that God has sent for us.

LA IMPORTANCIA DEL GURU (MAESTRO ESPIRITUAL)
Muchos de nosotros podemos formularnos las siguientes preguntas:
¿Por qué necesitamos un gurú (maestro espiritual)?
¿No somos capaces de alcanzar el mismo objetivo por nosotros mismos?
¿no somos ya completos y divinos?
Si todo lo que estamos buscando ya está dentro de nosotros y somos almas perfectas que vienen de lo divino intentando volver a nuestro verdadero hogar ... entonces ... ¿por qué depender de un gurú cuando caminamos en nuestro sendero espiritual?
Vinimos aquí a este mundo para desempeñar nuestro papel en la creación y aprender las lecciones que nos permiten crecer. A través de un continuo crecimiento, podemos finalmente ser capaces de expresar nuestra verdadera naturaleza y descubrir nuestro estado original de unidad con Dios.
Existen muchas maneras, muchos caminos para alcanzar la misma meta, que es la Realización del Ser. En las diferentes tradiciones, se utilizan diferentes nombres que significan lo mismo: Nirvana, Moksha, Kaivalya, liberación, salvación, despertar, iluminación, Comunión con Dios ...
El alma eventualmente recuerda y se reúne nuevamente con el origen divino que es la fuente de todo. El alma finalmente experimenta la unión con el todo, Sat-Chit-Ananda, el gozo y la bienaventuranza siempre creciente y renovada, una vez que el alma se fusiona con el Espíritu, con Dios.
Yo no sé cuál será vuestra opinión al respecto... pero a mí me da la impresión de que se trata de una gran tarea, ¡la tarea más grande a la que un ser humano puede enfrentarse!
En las distintas etapas a lo largo de nuestra vida tenemos necesidad de una guía, de un aprendizaje. Comenzamos necesitando a los padres, su educación y su cariño. Necesitamos un maestro que nos ayude a aprender en la escuela y especialmente en la universidad.
Necesitamos entrenamiento y seguimiento especial si comenzamos un nuevo trabajo o cambian nuestras tareas u obligaciones…
¿Cómo, entonces, no necesitaremos guía para realizar la tarea espiritual más importante que es el despertar de nuestra alma?
Un verdadero gurú no es un simple maestro, sino un mahatma, un alma iluminada.
Estamos dormidos en el sueño cósmico, en la ilusión de Maya. Hemos olvidado lo que somos, nuestro origen divino, y tenemos que recordarlo por nosotros mismos o idealmente ser guiados por alguien que realmente sabe de lo que está hablando, porque él o ella ha estado allí antes ... y él o ella puede mostrarnos el camino a casa.
Daré un ejemplo que viene a mi mente:
Cuando intentamos encontrar un lugar, tenemos diferentes opciones: podemos buscar el lugar en un mapa, si sabemos orientarnos bien. Si tenemos suerte, finalmente encontraremos el lugar, pero puede llevarnos tiempo. Podemos pedir instrucciones a la gente local ... con la posibilidad de una respuesta correcta o el peligro de recibir una dirección incorrecta.
Pero si realmente queremos llegar al lugar de manera más rápida y eficiente, idealmente viajaremos con un guía local, que nos acompañará todo el tiempo, mostrándonos todo en el camino y ayudándonos a comprender los lugares, las personas y las tradiciones, hasta que podamos llegar a nuestro destino final.
De la misma manera, para llegar a un lugar, podemos elegir ir directamente o ir haciendo círculos; podemos usar un transporte lento, o podemos tomar un avión para llegar mucho más rápido.
El gurú es el guía en nuestro camino espiritual, la manera más rápida de llegar, el avión hacia la meta.
Después de un tiempo buscando y encontrando, una de las cosas que aprendí está relacionada con la importancia del tiempo: ¡el tiempo es un regalo precioso, así que no hay tiempo que perder!
Por eso es tan importante enfocarse en la meta y encontrar una manera eficiente de alcanzarla lo antes posible, cuando todavía tenemos tiempo.

Que todos podamos avanzar diligentes hacia la meta, disfrutando
del camino y recibiendo la guia inestimable del gurú que Dios ha enviado para
nosotros.
